Nora Zimmerli joined the Energy Science and Engineering lab in September 2019 after receiving her BSc (2014) and MSc (2017) in Materials Science from ETH Zurich. Upon concluding her Bachelor’s with a thesis on the structure determination of BSCCO superconductors via x-ray diffraction, Nora spent six months as an intern at Sensirion AG in Stäfa, Switzerland where she worked on metal-oxide based gas sensors. After another 3-months internship at an automotive company in China, Nora started her Master's in Materials Science during which she spent one semester studying at Tsinghua University in Beijing. In her Master's thesis, Nora was involved with the development of an optical sensor-based platform for the study of nucleic acids. Following her graduation, she worked as research assistant on the design and testing of orthopaedic implants for 9 months before starting her PhD. Nora is currently exploring the use of operando x-ray methods to study catalysts for CO2 conversion.
